About Tamer Farag
Tamer Farag is Vice President of Innovation and Research at BillionScale Health, where he leads the organization's research and intelligence work and the analytical infrastructure behind its scaling agenda.
Trained as an epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins, he has spent the past decade working across the disciplines that shape global health impact: strategy and grantmaking at the Gates Foundation, policy translation at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, technology partnerships at Meta, and innovative finance at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
At the Gates Foundation, he originated CHAMPS, the child mortality surveillance network operating across seven countries in Africa and South Asia, which has since grown into a $271 million, decade-long foundation commitment that has radically improved the accuracy of childhood cause of death determination. At Meta, he co-led product and led health data partnerships for the COVID-19 Trends and Impact Survey, which gathered over 160 million responses from nearly every country on earth and informed the pandemic response of 78 governments. At Gavi, he led private sector partnerships, where he architected the $300 million Scale Up Facility, the first partnership of its kind between an international organization, an innovation NGO, and a commercial venture firm.
He has served as Ministerial Advisor to the Government of Mali and holds a Ph.D. in Global Health from Johns Hopkins.
