SEATTLE, WASH. (May 18, 2026) Today BillionScale Health announced its launch and its ambition to find and finance solutions to the world’s biggest health challenges. The new nonprofit seeks to scale five breakthrough health solutions to a billion people or more each in the next 10 years.

Co-founded by longtime Malaria No More and Health Finance Coalition CEO Martin Edlund and former Fox Chairman and CEO Peter Chernin, the new organization leverages the power of blended finance to “billion-scale” life-saving innovations. BillionScale Health will absorb and expand the work of the Health Finance Coalition, which mobilized more than $340 million into its blended finance funds for health.

Launching a new global health organization against a backdrop of declining aid dollars and mounting challenges may sound wildly ambitious. But BillionScale presents a new model for this moment— one with an obsessive focus on scale.

“Scale bends the curve on cost. Scale bends the curve on disease burden, freeing up precious health capacity. Scale empowers countries, and it creates a repeatable model for their neighbors to follow,” said BillionScale Health CEO Martin Edlund. “The past year flipped the tables on global health, and the dust is still settling. We need to adapt to that and even help shape what comes next. We are excited for that challenge, and we see tremendous opportunity.”

BillionScale Health will back technologies with the greatest impact on health outcomes – measured in deaths and DALYs per dollar – that are also practical, investible and ready to scale.

These innovations aren’t hypothetical. They’re real and ready to be scaled up. For example, the nature-based solution Wolbachia prevents mosquitoes from carrying dengue and other diseases. And SC Johnson’s new spatial mosquito repellent, Guardian, offers a simple, cost-effective way to fight malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases. Both technologies could be gamechangers in global health, and BillionScale is proud to support efforts to take them to scale.

BillionScale Health is rooted in “place-based scale”: working with the highest-burden countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to expand innovations at a national level, creating a blueprint for regional and global scale. We take a “capital stack” approach that combines catalytic grant capital, country commitments, concessional loans, consumer spending and commercial investment, creating leverage for all involved. And we use market shaping and product improvements, working hand-in-hand with innovators, to bend the curve on costs.

“We are entering a moment of unprecedented optimism in global health. Technological advancements are creating a new generation of tools and solutions to fight disease on a global scale.  Building on our experience helping to scale global malaria solutions, BillionScale Health aims to combine new technology solutions with that experience to fight a broad range of diseases. We couldn’t be more excited,” said Peter Chernin, Former Fox Chairman and CEO and Co-founder of BillionScale Health
